Peripapillary coloboma simulating double optic disc.
EDITOR,—Doubling of the optic disc is rare and can manifest as true or pseudo doubling. A 64 year old man was referred by his physician who noted “a clear area between each optic disc on both sides” during a routine check. Visual acuities and anterior segments were normal. Funduscopy revealed an appearance simulating double optic discs on each side. The right eye showed a 2 disc diameter (DD) s...
متن کاملMulti-modality imaging findings of huge intrachoroidal cavitation and myopic peripapillary sinkhole
BACKGROUND Peripapillary intrachoroidal cavitation was described as the presence of an asymptomatic, well-circumscribed, yellow-orange, peripapillary lesion at the inferior border of the myopic conus in eyes with high myopia. CASE PRESENTATION A 66-year-old myopic Chinese man was enrolled and his multi-color imaging examination showed a well-circumscribed, caesious, peripapillary lesion coale...
متن کاملOptic disc duplication or coloboma?
AIM To describe lesions resembling optic disc duplication and highlight their unusual visual fields. The authors also report the first case of pseudo-duplication of the optic disc with overlying retinal nerve fibre layer. METHODS Retrospective, non-comparative review of case notes. Humphrey visual fields and OCT-3 imaging were performed. RESULTS All 11 cases represented peripapillary chorio...
متن کاملFamilial Disorders of the Optic Disc: Presentation of a Mother and Daughter and Review of the Literature
Optic disc pit and optic nerve coloboma are examples of congenital optic disc abnormalities. Although optic nerve coloboma can be inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion, no conclusive link has been found in the case of optic disc pit as an autosomal dominant disease. We describe two cases: a daughter with an optic disc pit complicated by maculopathy and her mother with a congenitally abnorm...
متن کاملClinical Applications of Optical Coherence Tomography in Ophthalmology
Assessment of the peripapillary nerve fiber layer and macular thickness can be determined in ophthalmology using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Decreased nerve fiber layer thickness and macular ganglion cell thickness in optic nerve ischemia have been correlated with visual field loss. OCT allows deep optic nerve head evaluation which helps understand pathophysiology of diseases. Furtherm...
